"Through therapy I gained confidence that I am enough, and that taking care of myself is a good thing - not selfish. I learned to say 'no.' I learned to be honest with myself and coming clean with secrets that had been tearing me up. I also learned to forgive myself.  I learned self-control. Whether the problem was big or small you were always there to lend a helping hand and never made me feel like any of my problems were stupid or that I was an inconvenience to you.  If I came to you with a problem, I always walked away with a solution." - AA

In a comfortable, safe, and supportive atmosphere, I create a highly-personalized therapy for my clients - primarily individuals and couples.  I also treat families, and will see children in a family context.

Addressing a wide range of emotional and behavioral issues, I help individual clients become more self-aware, and increase personal growth, satisfaction, and happiness. I help couples reduce feelings of disappointment and resentment, increase compassion and communication, and rediscover the intimate connection that has been missing or forgotten. I help families have difficult conversations, apologize to each other and accept appropriate responsibility, resolve conflict and repair damaged relationships, and get through difficult phases of necessary developmental transition.

Primary specializations and focus areas:

Range of issues include, but are not limited to:

  • Dissatisfaction or Transition in Life
  • Relationship Issues
  • Anger and Conflict Resolution
  • Benevolent Divorce / Divorce Recovery
  • Stress and Crisis Management
  • Eating Disorders
  • Self-Harm
  • Grief and Loss
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Depression and other Mood Disorders
  • Premarital Counseling (preparation for a life together)
  • Support During and After Pregnancy
  • Parenting and Family Support
  • Families in Addiction Recovery

I am a client-centered, relational therapist. The personalized treatment that I offer is heavily influenced by, and an integration of, several therapy modalities:  systems theory, attachment theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Gottman Method techniques and research (I am a Gottman Trained 7 Principals Educator), Solution Focused Therapy, Structural Therapy, Lifespan Integration (for existing clients who may need to process trauma), Nonviolent Communication, Buddhist Psychology, mindfulness, and understanding the interconnected nature of neurobiology, physical health, and psychological well-being.  Movement can enhance the therapeutic processing for some clients through Walk and Talk Therapy, an innovative approach to therapy outside of my office.

I also teach some DBT skills to help my clients find relief from an emotional crisis. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based treatment that focuses on behavioral change in the realms of emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, mindfulness, and self-soothing. The skills effectively reduce personal suffering and allow clients to be aware and proactive, versus reactive, with emotions and behavior. This treatment is suitable for a wide variety of clients, who may suffer with anxiety, depression, PTSD, codependency, and many other mental health symptoms.  I will refer clients out to a certified DBT clinician or clinic if appropriate or necessary.

To give back to our country's Veterans, I am a proud provider of Give an Hour. This is a wonderful volunteer organization dedicated to providing a free hour of mental health services per week for U.S. Military personnel affected by the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, and their families.

"Think of therapy as a gift, and make it, and yourself, a priority."
